On Monday 23 May:

- Railway Ramblers (Cumbria) has an ‘Appleby to Warcop walk (6 miles), being a walk along the intact track that the Eden Valley railway hope to reopen south of Appleby. The main features are the stations at Appleby East and Warcop as well at the viaduct over Coupland Beck.

On Wednesday 25 May:

- the Basingstoke and District Railway Society has a presentation entitled ‘Beer by Rail 1830 - 1914’ to be given by Dr. David Turner.  Venue is Wote Street Club, 2 Seal Road, Basingstoke RG21 7NG. Start time 7.45pm.

- the Ipswich and District Historical Transport Society has a presentation entitled ‘Wherry Lines - The End of an Era’ to be given by Andrew Wright from the Norfolk Railway Society. Venue is Salvation Army Citadel, 558 Woodbridge Road, Ipswich IP4 4PH. Start time is 7.30pm.

- Railway Ramblers (Warwickshire) has an Evening Walk around the Baddesley Colliery Dugsdale Estates Railway, being a walk along the remnants of the colliery rail links with the West Coast Main Line and Coventry Canal. To register an interest contact Gas Hill on 0114 2752303.

On Thursday 26 May:

- the Railway Performance Society has a London meeting comprising the usual style of informal chat over drinks. Venue is the Royal Oak, Tabard Street, Borough, details in Milepost. Start time 12 noon.


- the South East Essex Railway Society (‘SEERS’) has an ‘Evening with the Chairman’ event when Peter Sedge will present the next and final part of ‘Ancient and Not So Modern’, trains in the movies and other video items.  Venue is at Friends’ Meeting House 18 Dundonald Drive Leigh on Sea SS9 1NA. The intent is to also make this available on Zoom. Entry from 7.45pm for 8pm start.


- the Stevenage Locomotive Society is holding its AGM followed by a presentation entitled ‘Preserved Steam in the UK’ to be given by Barrie Woods. Venue is the Community Arts Centre, Roaring Meg Retail Park, Stevenage SG1 1XN. Start time 7.30pm.

On Friday 27 May:

- the Railway Club of the New Forest has a Zoom presentation entitled’ ‘The Man Behind The Old Road aka Castleman’s Corkscrew’ to be given by Phil Benstead. Members will be circulated with Zoom invitations a week in advance. Visitors should contact the Club via its website.

- the Slough & Windsor Railway Society is having a ‘Steam Ciné Finale’ event presented by John Coke. Venue is 'The Manor', Brunel Way, Slough railway station. Start time, 7.30pm.

On Saturday 28 May:

- the Cardiff & Avonside Railway Society has a day trip, the 'Peterborough' (reduced fares for members).


- the Industrial Railway Society has a trip to the Midland Railway Trust, Butterley for the Narrow Gauge Gala (discount admission price for members).


- the London & North Western Railway Society have an open day at its Kenilworth Study Centre (Unit 6A, Princes Drive Industrial Estate, Coventry Road, Kenilworth Warwickshire, CV8 2FD).  Booking in advance is essential. Opening times 10am to 4pm.

- Railway Ramblers (Devon) are having a Dartmoor Weekend. The first part of the weekend is a walk (8 miles) along the former LSWR main line to Okehampton crossing the impressive Meldon Viaduct along the way.

On Sunday 29 May:

- Railway Ramblers (Devon) second part of the Dartmoor Weekend. A walk (7.5 miles) along the scenic Dartmoor branch line Princetown to Dousland (near Yelverton) which closed in 1956.
