A Short Note on Model Railway Club Associations

Three Model Railway Club Associations are of particular note and are listed below.

A. Chiltern Model Railway Association (CMRA)
B. Wessex Association of Model Railway Clubs (WAMRC)
C. Association of Model Railway Clubs Wales & West of England

(A) Chiltern Model Railway Association (CMRA)
(Website: www.cmra.org.uk)

CMRA was founded by a small group of local model railway clubs in 1965. Membership is now open to any bona fide organisation, as well as individuals and members of the trade. The vast majority of members are model railway clubs, with about 140 Associate organisations covering most of the UK. Services offered by CMRA to Associate organisations include exhibition insurance, portable appliance testing (PAT), loan of exhibition equipment, exhibition diary, layout register, guidelines for running exhibitions, modellers workshops and seminars. A small number of club members do not have their own website or social media presence, and those can only be found on RCD via the CMRA website.

(B) Wessex Association of Model Railway Clubs (WAMRC)

(Website: www.wamrc.co.uk)

WAMRC was established to promote railway modelling by supporting its member clubs and by holding and supporting exhibitions initially within the region of Wessex. The number of members is now about 80 which includes clubs and trade entities, and now covers the area from Cornwall to Kent. WAMRC usually organises 3 model railway shows itself per year, at which its members are encouraged to participate. WAMRC has within its membership a number of smaller model railway clubs that do not have their own website or social media presence, and those can only be found on RCD via the WAMRC website.

(C) Association of Model Railway Clubs Wales & West of England

(Website: www.bristolmodrailex.uk)

The Association was founded in 1968 with the express purposes of staging a large model railway exhibition in the Bristol area to act not only as a showcase for the layouts of its member clubs but also to invite and show some of the best in railway modelling from around the country. The Association has successfully run one of the biggest shows in the West Country for about 50 years.

The Association is currently made up of 34 member clubs from around Wales & the West of England plus others from further afield. The Association has elected officers to serve it, and regular committee meetings and Association meetings are held for re-election of officers and to plan for the forthcoming shows.
