Steam Locomotive Societies

This section of the RCD is divided into 3 Parts:

1. Steam Locomotive Societies

Here we list societies (howsoever formed, including companies and trusts), based in the UK that own or have long term custody of a ‘standard gauge steam locomotive’ or a collection thereof.

Note that heritage railways and centres which own their own locomotives are not included here as they appear in the ‘Heritage Railways’ section of this website.

2. New Build Steam Locomotive Projects

Here we list new build steam locomotive projects.

3. Locomotives based at Commercial Operations and Principal Museums/Centres.

Although rarely owned by societies, for completeness we list here standard gauge steam locomotives that are based at Commercial Operations of some form, or at the principal railway museums/centres of the UK (not being heritage railways).
