Light Rail Transit Association

About the Association

 

The Light Rail Transit Association is a not–for–profit UK based organisation seeking to achieve better public transport through light rail, tramway and metro systems in towns and cities world–wide. Its membership includes many professionally‐involved managers, planners and operators from the public transport industry and from technical businesses as well as enthusiasts.

The Association has Area Officers who organize local campaigning and arrange local meetings, which covers most large urban areas of the UK, as well as a few overseas.

Benefits of Membership

  • A campaign group promoting the development of modern trams and light rail, particularly in the cities of the UK

  • A group with a general interest in light rail and tramways

  • Has 16 ‘Areas’ in the UK some of which hold Area meetings and organize local campaigning

  • Centrally organised online meetings hosted on the Zoom, currently monthly

  • Monthly magazine, ‘Tramways and Urban Transit’

  • Quarterly historical magazine ‘Tramway Review’ which members can add to their subscription

Promotions

New member promotions occasionally apply. For example, for potential new members there is currently an offer of a free three-month digital subscription to Tramways & Urban Transit, at the end of which they are invited to renew at usual rates, less a discount if payment is by direct debit.
