Great Western Society

About the Society

The Great Western Society operates the Didcot Railway Centre (the ‘Didcot Centre’), a former Great Western Railway (GWR) engine shed, now housing its GWR locomotives, carriages, wagons and other stock, both standard and broad gauge. The collection is considered to be the largest collection of items relating to any one railway company, anywhere in the world.

The Society also has an educational and historical aspect. In particular it has a number of local Area Groups that not only support the Didcot Centre, but also have a more generalised GWR interest which is explored through their local meetings and presentations.
