Diesel (and Electric) Locomotive Societies

A considerable number of diesel locomotives, and a few electric locomotives, have been preserved, some by dedicated societies that have preserved a number of such locomotives, some by individuals who have preserved a single engine.

The RCD is a directory of societies and clubs, and does not list individuals or individual projects. Accordingly we list here locomotive societies (howsoever formed, including companies and trusts), based in the UK that own or have long term custody of at least two standard gauge diesel or electric locomotives.

Note that heritage railways and centres which own their own locomotives are not included here as they appear in the ‘Heritage Railways’ section of this website. Note also we do not list commercial locomotive operators.
